focused on the conjugation of the verb "pouvoir" in French. We went over writing criteria for our written French story and started writing our drafts. We discussed a variety of reading strategies to improve our reading fluency and read the book "L'homme en carton." We also started reading "La légende du corbeau'', a book written in both French and Inuttitut. We explored how to increase our vocabulary by reading various types of books, using previous knowledge and context to make predictions, finding the meaning of new words, using parts of a word that you already understand, using new words in daily speaking and during writing activities, etc.
practiced identifying different characteristics of shapes and practiced making 3D structures in math. We learned about symmetry and how to identify different lines of symmetry in shapes. We also practiced drawing mirror reflections using transparent mirrors in class.
did our indoor and outdoor homeless shelter simulation as part of Socials. Students were very engaged! We had a follow-up discussion as a class and then shared our personal reflections with classmates. We also kept working with our STEM groups, continuing our construction and writing reflections related to building and team-work.
started our <<tomatosphere>> experiment in Sciences. We planted one packet of seed that was untreated. The other packet of seeds have spent approximately 30 days at the International Space Station in June-July 2017. We do not not which packet is from space and we will observe which plants germinate first. We planned our research based on the six questions: What? Why? When? Where? How? Who? We made predictions and then started collecting our data.
started our literature circle preparation by reading the ''Raven story'' and writing a summary together. We explored various types of deeper questions to ask versus questions that ask for basic facts. We made our small groups of four students for each literature circles. Each group received a different legend and had a part to read to the rest of the group. Students discussed their first impressions of the story.
