Over the past few weeks, we have established and practiced classroom routines all the while getting to know each other and working together.
Each morning we have been running outside, followed by either stretching or playing a game. I find it is beneficial for students to start the day with daily physical activity as it helps them focus throughout the day.
Students have been changing seats daily with the help of a random group maker app. This has encouraged students to work with different classmates and has helped shaped our classroom community, in which everyone is valued and included. Students have had a very positive attitude towards changing seats daily which has been great!
We have begun exploring the MindUp curriculum, which has encouraged students to understand the relationship between our brain and our capacity to learn new information. Students are learning to be aware of their environment, their emotions and of others around them.
I have been assessing student knowledge in various subjects such as math and language arts in order to get a better idea of where students are and what we will need to focus on during the next month.
